“I wish time could just stop now,” he said, glancing over at her.

“We’re walking… on the street in a suburban neighborhood in the middle of the afternoon,” she laughed. “Why would you possibly want to stop time here?”

“Because we’ll be wandering in suburbia- America’s ultimate escape from reality. No crime. No trash. And-” he stopped and plopped on the nearest lawn grinning ear to ear.  ”The lawns are perfectly trimmed.”

She jokingly rolled her eyes and continued walking on.

“But seriously,” he said, catching up and holding her hand again. “One day alright?”

    “What do you mean?”

“I mean one day..we’ll stop this madness. We’ll stop living in the city and going to work in a frenzy- Starbucks in one hand, briefcase in the other. Which reminds me, I need to get that shirt dry cleaned.  But no more taking the subway to work and tripping over those fricking pigeons. God, I hate those pigeons. I’ll drive us. We’ll buy a car and drive to work. We’ll have a white porch and a old fashioned swing set in the backyard. One of those mesh welcome mats with a horrible design that screams ‘throw me away’ and a two door garage. And it’ll be dead quiet. Goodbye angry, honking taxi drivers. We’ll be sipping tea and watching TV in the late afternoon to the sound of absolutely nothing. Doesn’t that sound great?”

“We’ll…be like one of those boring married couples,” she chuckled.

“Exactly. Wasting away in each other’s company.” He squeezed her hand.

    “I love it.”
